[Guest Post] Smart Bro's Fair Usage Policy

Smart Bro Review

This is a guest post from Mr. Gamerboy which was submitted last April 24, 2013.

Yesterday morning I'm having a slow internet connection with my Smartbro Canopy here in Laguna area. I thought there was a problem again with my connection so I called their tech support. After checking for several mins, he told me that my account has exhausted the allocated bandwidth and they also informed me about the newly implemented FAIR USAGE POLICY from Smart Bro.

I asked him when did they recently implemented this NON-SENSE POLICY, but he didn't give m an exact date. About the complete info, he also doesn't know about it.

My current download speed is 20kbps (from 200kbps). I guess i have to move to another ISP. I'm a Smartbro Canopy user for more than 6 years now.

I called them today regarding the same problem. I thought it concerned the signal in my area, or that the receiver was moved by the wind, etc. I haven't seen 50 KBps in more than a week and it's terribly disappointing. I can't even stream radio or watch YouTube videos. They told me the same thing; that I have exhausted the allowable amount of data for my home account, which I thought was fair considering I really am a heavy downloader. My only concern is their inability to inform their subscribers prior to the implementation of the Fair Usage Policy (as the customer service rep told me). If only I was told beforehand, I could have been not moping over the almost useless speed of my internet connection now.

Also, I have found in PLDT's site the Fair Usage Policy of MyBro users: http://www.pldthome.com/mybroFUP.

They did not mention any amount of data whatsoever that would indicate to the users how much data they can consume each month. Although they made partially clear that P2P programs' (i.e., torrent clients) connectivity is now "modulated" to ensure better service for all users.

Anyway, I am going to look for a way around the contract. I have been using it for just about 8 months and I have a 24-month lock-in, but I just can't live with 30KBps.

This F(ckd0 UP allocation is so Infuriating! I called Smart to ask about my slow connection and they told me my allocation was used up already on the 11th and have to wait until the first to have my allocation again. This devious scheme wasn't disclosed to me when I renewed my contract in March. I asked them how much allocation is it for me to monitor my consumption but they said they have no idea how much is given to each subscriber. It's my 3rd contract with them.
Smart informed me that if I want a faster connection I have to upgrade and pay P1,995 which includes a PLDT landline! I already have 3 land lines in the house and I don't need another land line. I just want to avail the service I am paying for as it was on the agreement. Changing the conditions of the contract after it has been signed is so wrong. They can be have legal liability. I hope someone does something about this situation. Maybe a class suit? They're like stealing from us. We keep paying because we are tied to the contract and yet they diminish the service.
They didn't even inform us so we could have exercised our right to choose.
PLEASE SOME ONE OUT THERE, DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS GIANT TAKING ADVANTAGE OF PEOPLE DEPENDENT ON THEM.

even its prepaid service is frustrating! very frustrating gusto mo na silang pagtatagain.Imagine 20-80kbps buong maghapon!! guys ang magagawa lang natin siguro ay magkaisa and let it be known publicly how worst their service is. hangga't kasi hindi nati-TV or dyaryo sila wala silang gagawing aksyon.

Sana maulit yung dati pinsabog yung cellsite nila... PASABUGIN NG LAHAT...

Recently i have experienced very slow connection speed so i went to their smart center in sm to complain and have my connection checked. They told me to wait for 2-3 days and they will send a tech but no one showed up. Since then i have already gone to their office 4 to 5 times and demanded that they look in to my problem but every time they only say that i should wait for the call from their call center agents to assist me, but no calls came. So once a gain i went to their office and this time they informed me of this bullshit called fair use policy. Why didnt they informed me the first time so i dont have to waste my time, effort and money going to their office all the while i was thinking it was a technical problem. Last friday their agent called and confirmed that they really implemented their policy on my case and naturally i argued why they advertise for "unlimited use" but have a download cap. He said that there was no download cap but they just lowered the speed. But i paid for 1 mbps or somewhere near that figure. Does it mean that they should also lower my monthly dues? he gave me no reply but only suggested that i should migrate to their wimax plans or a pldt connection. What for? To subject myself to another 2 years of their frustrating service? It seems that i am bound for another trip to their office and have my subscription terminated. Mga BOBO talaga!! i dont know where to put the "SMART" tagline anymore.

This is so annoying, We are paying 999php for a 30kbps Internet Connection? This is slower than my old dial up connection (8 years ago). Now i need to endure this slow connection for 8 more months then i wont renew my contract with them. Thank you Smart for ruining your business, This is a brilliant idea.
@Topic: Let's all change to pldt DSL or Globe.

I have been a subscriber of Smart Bro Canopy since May 2013. I started having problems with the connection since September last year. It will give a strong signal but it will just stop forever in obtaining IP address and nothing. I have called several times to complain but operator who is just there to record complains does just that. I requested that since I am not given any successful connection ever since to just stop the billing. But all they say is I am in 1 year contract and they cannot do anything about it. Now I am receiving bills from them and even being threatened. I have been requesting for a technician to come over but they say since there is signal on their end they will not send one. How much is it to send a technician for a postpaid subscriber?.. Will that even affect their billion earnings? their customer care sucks!
