As I've mentioned, I renewed my Smart Bro Canopy Plan 999 last month - October 2012... which obviously was a big mistake I've ever done this year. During my renewal, I was offered three retention rewards - three basic mobile phones (one time payment of P300 which would be charged on the next billing), monthly rebate of P100-P150 (I already forgot!) for the next 24 months, and an Android Tablet or "Fab Tab" that would also be charged monthly for the next 24 months which was amounting to something like P1,353.33 (P999 + P354.16). At first, I was interested with the Android Tablet. But we ended up getting the three basic phones since it was only 2 months before Christmas and they could be useful as Christmas gifts.
My sister-in-law, who was also a Smart Bro subscriber, renewed her contract after a week. She chose this Android Tablet as her retention reward. At first, the tab was okay. It's like a basic tab which could be very useful for Skype, basic Google searches, and games. Two weeks after she got this so-called "FAB TAB", it suddenly cracked while charging. Take note - the crack was from the interior of the screen (we can't feel the crack from the outside).
Since the crack wasn't caused by human error (come on, it suddenly cracked while charging!), she returned it and asked for a replacement or atleast, a repair. Smart Bro refused to replace or repair it - instead, they asked her to pay for P8,500 for replacement or P2,500 if she wishes to have it repaired outside.
Come on... P8,500? It's like she's going to purchase a whole new tablet from them... while the additional P354.16 on her monthly bill is still being charged. And why would she pay them P2,500 if she wishes to have it repaired outside?
Because of this incident and Smart Bro's bandwidth performance, she immediately switched to Smart's biggest competitor. As of now, her new dsl plan is great. We often do multiple speedtests - averaging to 1.2Mbps - 1.99Mbps. I hope that it would stay that way forever.
So if you're thinking of getting this Android Tab or Fab Tab as your retention reward, well, good luck. I hope this won't happen to you.

Update! Update! (February 9, 2013)
A friend redeemed this tablet also. According to him, this Fab Tab gave him serious headaches. Its quality is not even worth it. Now, he already stopped paying his Smart Bro monthly bills (he's also having internet connection problems).
